Ola Electric gets certification for rare-earth-free ferrite motor

Ola Electric has achieved a big milestone in the Indian EV industry. The company has received government certification for developing a new type of motor called a rare-earth-free ferrite motor. This means Ola has designed a motor that doesn’t depend on expensive and imported rare-earth materials like neodymium, which are usually used in most electric vehicles.

A ferrite motor works using simple ferrite magnets made from iron oxide — materials that are cheaper and easily available in India. This makes the motor more affordable to produce and helps reduce the overall cost of electric scooters. It also supports India’s Make in India vision by reducing the country’s dependence on imported parts.

The new ferrite motor is not only cost-effective but also eco-friendly. Mining rare-earth elements harms the environment, while ferrite materials are safer and cleaner. Since the motor has received certification from ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India), it has passed all safety and performance tests, proving that it’s ready for use in real electric scooters.

With this innovation, Ola Electric is taking a big step forward. The company is expected to use this new motor in its upcoming models, which could make future Ola scooters more affordable and reliable. This breakthrough could also inspire other EV companies to develop similar eco-friendly technologies made right here in India.
