An electric scooter charger can become warm during charging, and in most cases, this is completely normal. The charger converts household AC electricity into the DC power needed by the scooter battery, and some energy is released as heat during this process. Therefore, a mildly warm or moderately hot charger does not automatically mean there is a problem.
However, excessive heat should not be ignored. If the charger becomes extremely hot, produces a burning smell, makes unusual sounds, or changes color, stop charging and allow it to cool. These signs can indicate an electrical fault, poor ventilation, damaged wiring, or a problem with the charger itself.
Where you place the charger also matters. Avoid keeping it under a seat, inside a closed cupboard, on a bed, or covered with cloth while charging. The charger needs proper airflow to release heat. Always place it on a hard, flat and dry surface.
Another common reason for overheating is a loose or damaged charging connection. Check the charging cable, plug and connectors for cuts, melted plastic, unusual marks or loose connections. Using an original or manufacturer-approved charger is also safer than using an unknown replacement.
It is normal for the charger to become warmer when the battery is charging at a higher power or when the charging environment is already hot. In Indian summers, the surrounding temperature can make the charger feel considerably hotter.
The simple rule is: warm is generally normal, but dangerously hot is not. If you cannot comfortably touch the charger or notice burning smells, sparks, smoke or damaged components, stop charging immediately and have the charger inspected by an authorized service centre.
